Federation

The United Federation of Planets is a co-operative of more than 150 member planets and thousands of colonies of the Alpha and Beta Quadrants. Founded by the Andorians, Humans, Tellarites and the Vulcans, the Federation stresses the values of peace and mutual co-operation. One of their most important precepts is the Prime Directive, which forbids their intervention in the development and affairs of others. Starfleet is the primary defence force and exploration arm of the Federation.
